Regional meetings of County and Denominational Ecumenical Officers
This is an archive page but some information is still accurate.
The first paragraph for each region describes meetings of CEOs. The second paragraph describes meetings of CEOs with DEOs across the region. (The existence of a CEO/DEO team within each each Intermediate Body (IB) is assumed.) This document and map presented to a 2013 meeting is also helpful.
North East Christian Churches Together
The IB in the NE, North East Christian Churches Together, covers the whole of the region. There is no CEO but a team of DEOs who are all part-time on the job to varying degrees. They meet as a team regularly to cover both CEO work and DEO work. This model works very well in the North East but has not transferred well to other parts of the country. Jenny Bond can explain.
In the NE and Yorkshire (six IBs) there is an annual meeting open to all CEOs and DEOs. This Darlington meeting has its own web page.
There are five IBs in Yorkshire, two (West Yorkshire Ecumenical Council and South Yorkshire Churches Together) with part-time CEOs and two (North York Moors Churches Together and the Ecumenical Network in the Vale of York) whose administration is done by the PA to the Methodist Chair and who have no-one carrying the CEO role, even nominally. KEY (Kingston upon Hull and East Yorkshire) Churches Together has ceased to meet. CEOs in Yorkshire do not meet on a regional basis.
In the NE and Yorkshire (six IBs in all) there is an annual meeting in Darlington open to all CEOs and DEOs. This Darlington meeting has its own web page.
There are six IBs in the NW, with the exception of Churches Together in Man, with part-time or full-time CEOs, or in the case of Greater Manchester, a part-time administrative assistant working with a team of DEOs. They are Churches Together in Cumbria, Churches Together in Lancashire, Greater Manchester Churches Together, Churches Together in the Merseyside Region and Churches Together in Cheshire. The CEOs meet regularly, three or four times a year for personal sharing and support as well as to discuss matters relating to the job. The Social Responsibility Officer in Cumbria, the Cheshire Agricultural Chaplain and the Lancashire Inter Faith/Social Responsibility Officer are part of this meeting. NW County Officers regularly consult each other via e-mail.
There are no regional meetings of DEOs in the NW.
There are five IBs in the East Midlands, all, apart from Nottinghamshire, with part-time CEOs. The CEOs meet regularly for personal and professional support and encouragement. The IBs are Churches Together in Nottinghamshire, Churches Together in Derbyshire, Churches Together in Leicestershire, Churches Together in All Lincolnshire and Shire & Soke, which covers Northamptonshire and Peterborough.
There are no regional meetings of DEOs in the East Midlands.
There are eight IBs in the West Midlands, all with part-time CEOs. (Birmingham Churches Together has a full-time officer who gives one day a week to the West Midlands Churches Forum.) They used to meet as a group of CEOs after West Midlands Churches Forum meetings which take place three times a year but this has ceased. The IBs concerned are Birmingham Churches Together, Churches Together in Coventry and Warwickshire, Black Country Churches Engaged, Churches Linked Across Staffordshire and the Potteries, Shropshire Churches Together, Telford Christian Council, Churches Together in Worcestershire and Churches Together in Herefordshire.
There are no regional meetings of DEOs in the West Midlands.
East of England
There are six IBs in the Eastern region, all with part-time CEOs: Churches Together in Norfolk and Waveny, Churches Together in Suffolk, Cambridgeshire Churches Together, Churches Together in Essex, Churches Together in Bedfordshire and Churches Together in Hertfordshire. The CEOs meet annually though are good at keeping in touch by e-mail, for example if something comes up regionally or if a CEO has a query and wants advice, info etc.
There used to be an annual meeting, usually held in Cambridge, which was open to all CEOs and DEOs in the Eastern region which CTE's Field Officer (South) attends as do up to two NEOs.
South East (North)

Four IBs serve Greater London: Essex & East London, North Thames, South London and West London, although the West London IB is non-functioning. Two of the others have paid part-time CEOs and North Thames has a very part-time administrator working with a team of DEOs. The CEOs for London normally meet twice a year, often with the Secretary of the London Churches Group for Social Action.
There is no pan-London meeting of DEOs but there is a meeting of Ecumenical Borough Deans.
South East (South)
There are six IBs in the South East (South), three of them (Hampshire & Isle of Wight, Guernsey and Jersey) with volunteers in the CEO role and the other three (Kent, Surrey and Sussex) with part-time CEOs. There are no regional meetings of DEOs in the South East (South).
