Food, Generosity and Justice

Join Church Leaders in making a stand

On Tuesday 4 March and Wednesday 5 March Church Leaders of different denominations across West Yorkshire and western North Yorkshire will be making a stand about food.

On Shrove Tuesday, 'Generosity Tuesday', they invite you to join them in giving away free food. Let's celebrate the amazing generosity of so many Christians and churches in providing food for others. What can your church or Churches Together group do that day? (Let Clive Barrett know)There are many examples of food being given away that day, from soup kitchens and food banks to a special pancake giveaway on the steps of Wakefield Cathedral 11am - 12.45pm, where you'd be most welcome.

On Ash Wednesday, 'Justice Day', join with the church leaders as they gather outside Wakefield Cathedral at 1pm for a short service of penitence for being part of a society that misuses food, that forces so many people into hunger. It is a time of commitment to a better society, a more just use of food. This is an important ecumenical occasion and all churches are invited to come to join with the church leaders as they make this stand together.

This document provides information and ideas and more details will appear on the West Yorkshire Ecumenical Council website. Please spread the word around your own churches, networks and newsletters. Let's celebrate Christian generosity, and stand up for food justice together on 4 and 5 March.

In peace,

Clive Barrett
